30 December 2025 · Kalimpong
Meeting with District Horticulture Department
Time: 10:15 am to 11:00 am · Met: Sri Sanjay Dutta, District Horticulture Department (Kalimpong)
The team introduced the Trichoderma Bio Facility Project, the citizen science + DIY facility model, and explored departmental support, scheme convergence, and participation in the facility inauguration and farmer trainings.
What we shared
- Citizen science approach; DIY model to set up a replicable low-cost biofacility for Panchayat-level mycology interventions using Trichoderma.
- Farmer trainings to operate and maintain a basic lab for local production and correct application practices.
- Convergence with existing horticulture schemes to improve uptake, plus mushroom farming as a complementary livelihood intervention.
Department insight
- Departmental funds/schemes often remain unspent because farmers hesitate to invest the required share or upfront amount.
- Demonstration-driven engagement and trust-building can help farmers see reduced risk and practical value.
Commitments
- DHO assured full support and willingness to visit the facility opening and participate officially in the inauguration.
- Handholding support during trainings, including facilitation of departmental linkage and credibility.
